Patricia Mota grew up in Chicago, Illinois, which is a "stark contrast," she notes, from Kenyon's rural campus. And she likes it that way. "I find that the rural setting helps people concentrate on their education," she says. A Spanish literature major with a concentration in Latino/a studies, Patricia adds that she chose Kenyon because the students here have "a genuine desire to learn." She also appreciates the campus community's openness to different backgrounds and perspectives, helping her and her classmates to become "more accepting and self-aware." Outside the classroom, Patricia leads ADELANTE, a student organization that promotes Latin culture on campus, and mentors minority and first-generation students through REACH. After graduation, she wants to serve her community by working in the non-profit sector of immigration reform.
